Legend of the White Canoe, Niagara Falls [Postcard]
POSTCARD TITLE: Legend of the White Canoe
POSTMARK: Aug 7, 1941
PUBLISHER: Otto Ulbrich Co.
TYPE/BACK: Linen, Divided Back
COMMENTS: Living beside might Niagara, the peaceful tribe of the Ongiaras believed that its roar was the voice of the Great Spirit. Each year it was the custom to offer the fairest of their maidens as a sacrifice. The last of the maidens to be thus sacrificed was Lelawala, the daughter of Chief Eagle eye who, after witnessing the sacrificial plunge over the Falls, joined his daughter in death after the same fashion. Supposedly, Lelawala, known to us as the Maid of the Mist, and her father still live in a crystal cave behind the waterfalls.
The corners of the card are slightly rounded.
