COMMENTS:    Route 69.  Located midway between Utica and Rome, this granite shaft commemorates the Battle of Oriskany, fought on August 6, 1777 between the gallant foces of Gen. Nicholas Herkimer and the British and Indians under Gen. St. Leger.
