COMMENTS:    The establishment of the landing place of Hernando De Soto at Shaw's Point was made by the De Soto Commission appointed by President Roosevelt to establish not only De Soto's first landing place in America in 1539 but other points of travel which ended for De Soto on the Mississippi River in whose waters he was buried.
