COMMENTS: The Wright Memorial Shaft was dedicated Nov. 1932 "In Commemoration of the Conquest of the Air" to Orville and Wilbur Wright, inventors of the first successful flying machine. The Monument, a 60' granite pylon erected on top of a 90' sand dune, is near the location where the Wright Brothers made their first heavier than air flight on Dec. 17, 1903.
